MOODY & TEAM WIN IN WICHITA FALLS

The Southwest Superchargers second event of 2008 was held May 10 at Wichita Raceway Park, Wichita Falls, TX. Twelve windmill warriors made the trek with stars in their eyes and methanol in their fuel tanks.
Round 1 qualifying began around 4:30 with Jack Bartlett (Sweetwater, TX) facing Greg Powell (Hobbs, NM). Bartlett's 4.82/139 trailer Powell's 4.67/149. Jacob Penner (Seminole, TX) had more engine problems and struggled to a 5.02/140. Bill Norman/Norman Bros/Fabulous Fat Boys first competition pass of the season only yielded a 5.26/95. Sue Stringer (Alamogordo, NM) made a decent 4.94/140. LH Newlin's "Cantankerous" (Tolar, TX) stumbled on a 5.26/126. Newcomer Cody Cypert (70 Nova/Lubbock, TX) ran a 5.23/136. Mike Jones "Voodoo Child" altered (Lubbock, TX) ran a nice 4.77/147. Paul Harris )Bockman Racing 23t) went 4.67/149. Ken Reierson antique slingshot struggled to a 6.32/106. Julian Moody (El Paso, TX) made a 4.67/150. And Jack and Amy Chapman (Ransom Canyon TX) also ran 4.67. Four 4.67's in q 1...this was gonna be a tough field!
      Qualifier #2 started with Moody's 4.61/150 arriving before Powell's 4.67/147. Next Bartlett's 4.65/145 outpaced Reierson's 5.32/138. Cypert's Nova broke a rear vs. Sues 4.87/142. Newlin's nice 4.65/149 was farther under index than Harris 4.68/148. Mike Jones' 4.86/144 outshone Normans broken 5.20/110. Jack Chapman's single was a soft 5.80/86.
With the 8-car field set, our compressor competitors began to move to the Wichita Raceway Park starting line. #3 Greg Powell faced #6 Jack Bartlett in the first pair. Bartlett's "Black Viper Energy Services" rail advanced via a 4.75/139 vs. Powell's 4.84/139. #1 Paul Harris and #8 Sue Stringer were next. Harris appeared to be in distress after the burn out...but won the pass with a 5.02/113 when Sue ran under index 4.64/146. #4 Jack Chapman's "Hoopie" won against #5 LH and Francis' "Cantankerous" 4.94/114 to 5.42/121. #2 Julian Moody won with a 4.71/136 when #7 Mike Jones ran 4.76/147.

The Southwest Superchargers semi-final round came to pass as #2 Julian Moody & Crew met #6 Bartlett (a replay of the Midland final). Moody instantly won when Bartlett fouled (.379). The other half of the round was decided when Chapman's '27t our distanced Harris' 23t to the finish, 5.21/142 to 4.69/132.
In the SWSC Final Round, #2 Julian Moody met #4 Jack Chapman. Chapman's better r.t. (.431 vs .465) gave him the early edge but as the short wheelbase altered drifted toward the centerline, he was forced to lift giving Moody his latest victory with a 4.98/106 to 5.60/85.
No "Perfect Pass" was recorded. Best effort was Moody's 4.71. Best Package was Bartlett's .403 r.t. + 4.7536 e.t. = .0567 pkg. But eleven (!) 4.67's were recorded!  Twisted Sister Racings Sue and Floyd Stringer seemed to have found the 427's "sweet spot". Best r.t. was a .400 by Paul Harris in Rd 2. No "Driver Bounty" was awarded due to Ray Stringers absence...maybe Amarillo May 31.
Come on out, we'll see you there!
