Moody
Max's Out in
Midland
The final SWSC
points race of 2009 was held Oct. 24th @ Desert Thunder Raceway in
Midland, Tx. Julian Moody and Team took the win and with it the 2009
SWSC Points Championship!
Rnd. 1
of Qualifying began with Lyle Byrum's El Paso based dragster running
against points leader Greg Powell's funster from Hobbs. N.M.
Both cars had traction woes and only ran 5.622/ 94mph and 7.068/
73mph, on the SWSC 1/8th mile index of 4.80. The Desert Thunder
Dragway surface didn't cooperate for Jacob Penner's back motored car
(5.937/ 112mph) vs. Andy Mears (8.26/ 60mph). Pair 3 saw Team Moody
go 4.910/ 143mph beside Don David's Odessa based altered who ran
7.565/ 100mph. Brittny Blakely- El Paso rooted dragster went 5.79/
89mph next to
Sue Stringer (Alamogordo) 8.928/ 55mph. Bill Norman and The Fabulous
Fat Boys Hemi Funster ran 5.054/ 131mph vs. Clay Cunningham's
5.376/99mph. From Truth or Consequences N.M. Gary Hill ran 4.910/
138mph as Doug Meshirer made a 5.552/ 116mph pass on his home town
track. Russ Padgett made a single and struggled to a 6.529/ 99mph.
After all our
SWSC racers had a chance to tweak their combinations, Q-2 saw Sue
Stringer improve to a 5.15/ 139mph on a bye. Doug Meshirer stepped
up to a 5.223/ 121mph vs. Gary
Hill's
5.374/ 113mph. Bill Norman ran a nice 4.814/ 141mph for the top rung
on the SWSC ladder against Brittny Blakely's 5.400/ 125mph. Don
David's 6.354/ 133 mph trailed Julian Moody's 4.777/ 145mph. Lyle
Byrum went 5.173/ 114 to Greg Powell's 5.666/ 133 mph. Jacob Penner
ran 5.102/ 149mph vs. Andy Mears 5.792/ 133mph. WOW Tough
Conditions!!
Upon pushing the
right buttons on the lap top it was discovered #1 Qualifier was Bill
Norman and team, #2 Julian Moody, #3 Gary Hill, #4 Jacob Penner, #5
Sue Stringer, #6 Lyle Byrum, #7 Doug Meshirer and #8 Clay
Cunningham.
It was gonna be a
tough three rounds for Greg Powell. Coming to this race he was the
SWSC Points leader. Now, not in the qualified field, all he would do
was watch and see if #2 qualifier and #2 in the SWSC Points Julian
Moody could go enough rounds to pass him for the Championship.
Rnd. 1
Eliminations roared to life as #4 Jacob Penner and #5 Sue Stringer
started their supercharged mounts. Sue's .083 r.t. gave way to
Jacobs better finish line, 5.138/ 134mph to a 7.632/ 70mph. Next #2
Moody and #7 Doug Meshirer met and Moody's near perfect 4.804/139
put away Doug's 5.231/142. And congratulations to Doug and
Shawnda Meshirer on their run in the SWSC qualified field!
Soon #1 Bill Norman squared off with #8 Clay Cunningham.
Bill's under-index 4.665/148 surrendered to Clay's 5.127/138.
#3 Gary Hill won a double-under-index affair against #6 Lyle Byrum,
4.6951/147 (-.1049) to 4.6717/144 (-1283).
The Semi-Final
round saw Jacob Penner take a competition bye to the final when Clay
Cunningham couldn't make the call, 4.734/150. And Gary Hill
spun (5.630/110) against Moody's 5.056/110.
For the SWSC
Final round, #2 Julian Moody met #4 Jacob Penner. Penner's
slightly slow r.t. (.178) required him to step on it to stay up with
Moody (.076 r.t.). In the end Penner ran under 4.785/138 and
lost to Moody's 4.858/140, and Team Moody had enough points to win
the SWSC 2009 Points Championship. On the last pass!
