Every month or so we
are going to have an article on one of our racers in the SWSC. Some of you may
remember when we did this before. We have found out over the last couple of
years that we have ALOT of people following our humble website. We have also
gained new race teams! This gives everyone a look at who we compete with all
season long and maybe a little insight for those that follow the SWSC!
Racers, this is your notice that I will be
contacting you for a bio and team photo!
Kenneth Reierson
Cranfills Gap, Texas
At an early age I started building model cars, (6 to 10 years old). Taking two or three and building something different. Then I got into racing go-carts for a friend of the family. I was 10 to 12 years old at the time.
There was a garage in Cranfills Gap that I hung around a lot when I was growing up. After a year or so he hired me to work for him. Here I was, twelve years old and got paid .25 cents and hour. I got my drivers licensee when I was thirteen. That's when I really started building cars. By the time I was fourteen I had a 59 Ford, 39 Ford and a 51 Ford. All I did was work on them old cars to make them go faster. My buddies all had Chevy's and I had a hard time keeping up with them. I even build me a dirt track car when I was seventeen that lasted about 3 races because I didn't like getting my car tore up. The I got an Anglia Drag Car. That's how I got hooked on drag racing.
The garage I worked in came
up for sale my senior year- I bought it when I graduated from high school.
Went to Hill Jr. College- school in the morning and work in the afternoon.
My friends and I hung out a lot at Green Valley and had a lot of fun. Then I
got my draft notice to go to the Army. Spent two years in the Army, got out
and went back to work. I opened my shop and started building cars. Mechanic
works paint and body work. I got married and then I really had to go to
work! Been married for 30 years. We have raised 6 kids. That is when my drag
racing ended. I got into building custom cars, going to a lot of car shows.
Then after about fifteen years went by I decided to get back into drag
racing, (BEFORE I get too old)! I didn't thing my wife would go for it but
she did. She has helped me a lot in the business and has had her hands full
with the kids.
I used to hang out at Claudie Meanders house a lot, watched him build his top fuel car. I bought an old frame that Jerry Norman built for him a long time ago. After about two years I got it running. Help from Claudie, Car, Paul and my two sons Ryan and Scott. So we have been racing this old car now for about 11 years.
I'm 57 years old, been married for 30 years, got all the kids raised and out of the house. My wife and kids go with me to the races every change they get. I've lived in Cranfills Gap all my life.
Let's go racing and have some fun!
